The National Policy on Education 1986 envisaged the setting up of residential schools, to be called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas that would bring out the best of rural talent. Under the same policy, JNV Patan, Sikar was established in 1987. The first batch of students passed out from JNV Patan in year 1994.
